VENTURES: Flying High With Hyundai Forklifts

Recent Western Cape Business News

CAPE TOWN-based NFS Industrial Machinery trades under the banner of ‘Lifting your business to new heights’ which also well reflects its own economic standing: the company is trading very healthily.

One of the reasons for this is that it has the sole agency for a product in the materials handling business that is increasingly making a name for itself - the range of Hyundai Forklifts.

Local director for NFS Industrial, Robert Worship tells Cape Business News he can foresee the range of Hyundai Forklifts gaining prominence in its market segment very much as Hyundai cars has shot to prominence - in a relatively short period - in the South African passenger vehicle market.

Already, for the team at NFS, 2011 started off with a bang. It was awarded the lucrative contract of supplying forklifts to Transnet Port Terminals. The subject award has led to NFS supplying Transnet with counterbalanced forklifts for use at the Port of Ngqura, Port Elizabeth. Worship reports that the company considers it a great achievement to have been selected from so many contenders, even the bigger players in the market.

Evidence of the growing success was highlighted last month with handing over three 2.5 ton Reach Trucks, with 9 metre lifting height, to Cape Town-based food processor Orley Foods which, according to Worship, was won against stiff competition “amongst them some of the leading names”.

They are of the class 25 BRJ battery operated trucks with one of the key features being that they operate on alternating current which translates into low life cycle cost.

The Hyundai range includes units with lifting capacities starting from 1.5T up to 25T and which are powered by diesel, LPG or electric. Importantly, Worship points out, they are fitted with EU Stage 3 and 4 emissions rated engines which make them environmentally most friendly.

We can match in quality and performance most any of the more popular brands, but at a much keener price”, according to Worship.

He boasts that NFS, which has been trading for only eight years in Cape Town, is currently experiencing thriving times with demand for the Hyundai products outstripping supply. Much of this also follows from the way the company can structure very flexible, customer-centered rental deals.

In the light of the above ‘New Heights’ seem to be a very achievable goal.
