 New Spray System Ensures Food Safety through Effective Antimicrobial Application

AutoJet® Antimicrobial Spray Systems from Spraying Systems Co. are providing meat and poultry processors with an alternative to costly post-pasteurization techniques. The systems apply a predetermined volume of antimicrobial onto each product or into each package. The spray controller ensures the proper volume of antimicrobial is delivered and a SprayCheck® sensor verifies application.

The efficacy of this technology has been established by the USDA/ARS and the systems have a proven track record with several commercially available topical antimicrobials for control of E. coli, Salmonella and Listeria monocytogenes.

In addition to food safety, the system provides many benefits to processors. Closed-loop control minimizes waste of costly antimicrobials. Changes in shot sizes and timing intervals can be pre-programmed to eliminate downtime for batch changes. Validation is simplified by automatic verification of the antimicrobial application. In addition, the system operates unattended resulting in reduced labour costs. Alarms notify workers if the system detects a problem that can’t be solved automatically.
