EARLIER this year, Freddy Hirsch Group, one of the leading spice manufacturers in South Africa needed to upgrade their Eskom line to 1mW.

CCI Technologies, under the guidance of Paul Riley were asked to quote for the reticulation as well as to upgrade their existing 500kVA standby industrial generator set to 1mVA.

“On top of this, given Broadcrown’s stock holdings, they were able to supply them with a BCC 1010P-50 (a 1000kVA prime set using the trusted Cummins QST 30 G4 engine and a Stamford Newage alternator) immediately,” says Mike Haward, engineer at Freddy Hirsch.

Initial commission was completed early in June without a hitch and final commissioning was completed by mid-June 2011. This included a complete new distribution board.

In another upgrade, Voltcom Reticulation was requested to upgrade Home Choice’s back up power supply a 275kVA standby power generator set, supplied by Broadcrown was chosen with quality and attention to detail being the motivating factor.

Emile Kruger, managing director of Voltcom, having seen the build quality of the Broadcrown sets, says he had no hesitation in supplying Home Choice with a BCJD 275-50 (a 250kVA prime set using the 8.1 litre, 6081 HF001 John Deere engine together with the Newage Stamford UCDI 274K alternator). With a custom built 3CR12 sound attenuated weatherproof canopy, the set was delivered to site in July.
