PROJECT MANAGEMENT: Making Magic At Hotazel Project
Recent Western Cape Business News
The brief, mandated by mining giant BHP Billiton, was to design and build a township that would stand as a sustainable town post the mining era, a township that would encourage and attract business other than mining.
Project planning and programme management commenced mid 2008 with start on site construction works starting in 2009.
Betts Townsend deployment and set up of the project management office required staff from all facets of the build environment to actively manage the development. The integration of systems controls measures to meet Tornado Plotted Capex Approvals is implemented through the planning division then executed through the implementation team to the site team.
In order to encourage home ownership, Betts Townsend consults directly with the HR division at BHP Billiton assessing the needs analysis to define the build. HSEC policy is vigilantly monitored through the PMO office.
The scope of work of the township is segmented into existing town asset preservation, (around 200 homes), new township development and bulk infrastructure. In all more than 700 homes will be built. There will also be a nursery school, high school, 220 single quarter/ married accommodation, stadium upgrade, sports fields upgrade, entertainment pavilion and social recreation upgrade, a police station and retail shopping center.
Hotazel has already transformed the mindset of the region and will be the catalyst moving forward, the company believes.
