LEADING Cape Town based engineering company Automation Specification has moved its head office to Aviation City at Cape Town International Airport and is due to open an office in Gauteng for the first time.

Says company CEO, Morné Van Zyl: “We moved our head office here because it makes more sense to serve our customers from this location near the airport. This is the city’s newest industrial node and our 1000sq m of new workshop and office area is simply more convenient for all concerned.”

The specialist company focuses on turn key electrical engineering projects and services goes back to the year 2000 when it was started up in Bellville. Since then it has grown into one of the city’s most sought after engineering companies that is BEE compliant after having secured a Level 4 accreditation in terms of South Africa’s labour dispensation.

On the issue of expansion, Van Zyl says the opening of the new office in Rivonia, Johannesburg, in January next year, comes as a result of the company’s involvement in projects throughout the country and elsewhere in Africa. The decision was mostly driven by customer demand.

“We believe that our new Gauteng base will greatly facilitate new business for our customers. This growth has come in the face of diminished economic activity worldwide and our 42 competent staff members bear out the company’s commitment to service delivery and quality excellence.”

In the Western Cape, Automation Specification is active in waste, waste water, water purification, process control, industrial automation, agriculture, MCC manufacture and turnkey installation as well as power generation.

The company also specialises in the aviation sector, with the installation of airfield ground lighting systems locally and abroad as well as other related aviation systems.

Its range of services includes value engineering – a method that focuses on the function of a product or service to add value without sacrificing the quality or reliability. Services such as comprehensive power analyses reports and infra-red heat detection are all backed by a 24/7 support system.

But Van Zyl says the company insists on “responsible automation.”

“While there is a great need for industrial automation in the market, one cannot do this without the involvement of the worker. That is the person who has been with his machine or equipment for years and who knows it inside out. We have a responsibility to our workforce and without the worker, no automation will ever work.” It is essential that automation is used for the right applications to streamline critical processes. It is also, as South Africans and business owners, our responsibility to minimise unemployment.
